As written
in the project application, the Portuguese School has developed activities with
students from kindergarten to the ninth graders, along the school year, in the
frame of STEAM, involving teachers from different areas of study, in order to
raise awareness about climate change and global warming. The “Climate Museum”
was seen as the final product of the entire achievements in diverse curriculum
classes, by combining “science” and “art”. The Museum was inaugurated on June
5th, 2022, Environment Day, since it coincided with the mobility of the project
in our school, and it created an opportunity to celebrate this achievement.
This
exhibition was prepared to draw attention to the damage caused by climate
change. Therefore, it is divided into different sections (pollution, water
scarcity, waste management, recycling and alternative energies). All visitors
(students, staff, visitors, the entire educative community) will be confronted
with overall problems caused by man, but on the positive side, the public will
also be faced with several possible solutions available to individuals willing
to make Planet Earth a green place again.
-Raising awareness of climate change and establishing ways
to fight it;
-Developing a green mindset in the framework of European
Green Deal and instilling the idea of climate neutrality in future generations;
-Enabling students to develop 21st century skills
(creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration,
flexibility and adaptability, entrepreneurship, etc.);
-Developing self-confidence in students while exhibiting the
museum works;
-Raising interest of students in science and art branches.
A closed dedicated classroom holds all the works done by students.
The space was divided into classified areas with Exhibition Stands for each problematic.
Several different models were produced and displayed for visitors to have the opportunity to observe and experience different types of climate
dangers and alternative solutions.
Short films made by students about climate change will be shown.
Make the impacts of climate change look real and personal.
Help the public observe causes and consequences of individual
action upon the Planet and show innovative ways and ability to find solutions
for today’s problems.
This experience is bound to make everyone aware of the
dangers of surrounding environmental issues and encourage change in attitude
and behaviour required to live in a more sustainable world.
